Children's Eye Care: What Parents Should Watch For
10 July 2026
Vision problems affect learning long before a child complains.
Children rarely say their vision is poor — they assume everyone sees the way they do. Parents and teachers are usually the first to notice.\n\nLook for sitting very close to the television, holding books unusually near, squinting or tilting the head, one eye drifting inwards or outwards, frequent eye rubbing, and unexplained poor performance at school.\n\nConditions such as lazy eye respond well to treatment when caught early, and much less well after the age of eight. Bring your child for a screening before they start school, and again every two years.
